Insurance?

I was filling out life insurance forms for work (they changed carriers), and I was reminded of a conversation that Doug and I had.

May 9th, about 7am. Yep. On the drive in to the hospital before Max was to be born via C-section.

"Do we have enough life insurance?"
"Probably not."
"We should get on that."
"Yeaaahhh."

Not the best time for such a conversation, on several levels, right?
Being a grown up in a real pain sometimes.

Max Portraits

We ended up with a CD with about 40 images. But below are among my favorites.

This one reminds me of a photo of me when I was about the same age.

Jade made the afghan featured in these photos.

Kate Portrait

Sure, it's a lot of pink and purple, but hands down it was the best picture of the day.

Who's toy is it?

The two soft blocks WERE on the blanket. Until Max started touching them, causing them to make bell and crinkly noises. Then Eddie decided they were his toys, and batted them further along the floor.

M's Game

When my parents were in town, we all went to the Mariner game. Lil' Dude looks great in his hat!Kate wanted to meet the Moose, and was all excited to see him. Until we actually got up close. Then she got a little bit shy, but to her credit, did not actually cry! This is the best picture, if you define best picture as everyone looking in the same direction.
This one is the best, if you go by most people looking in the direction of the camera.

Time with the Grandparents

Max had a lot of fun with Grandpa. But here he is just about to melt down, and I almost captured the 'saddest face in the world' with the camera.

Kate wanted Grandma to have pony tails, too!

Eddie & BobMarley

We went to the animal shelter to adopt one cat . . . and came back with two!
Eddie's original name was Prince Edward. He's a sweet kitty, and proof that if Kate is willing to hold still, he's willing to snuggle.
Or help you while you are working on the computer.
BobMarley (all one word, according to Kate. You can't just call him Bob) had a different name originally, and after a day of suggesting different names, Kate came up with this one. BobMarley is very curious. I was surprised he didn't actually jump in the tub.
The two boys (10 and 7 months) love to play with each other. It's fun to watch. Not quite so fun, however, in the wee hours of the morning when I want to be sleeping.
Both of the kitties like to snuggle on our shoulders/ sit on our heads.

If you wait long enough...

...the screaming child will just fall asleep. This was around dinner time, and she was throwing a fit. So she was sent to her room. One of the nice things now is that we can non-emotionally say, "Kate, you need to go to your room", and she will walk herself there, crying the whole way. Well, this night, instead of calming down pretty quickly and then coming back out, she just kept going until she got quiet. Very quiet.

She woke up enough to be upset about not being in her bed. So I got her into her bed, and she slept the rest of the night.

It's a surprise!

"Kate, I have a surprise for you."
K: "What is it?"
Me: "Well, if I told you it wouldn't be a surprise."
K: "It is a pony?"
Doug and I crack up laughing at this point. Where did she come up with that?
I don't think she was disappointed with the home made peanut butter cookie.

Assorted images

It's amazing to watch the kids skills develop. Last time Kate had these puzzles out, she had to ask me on each piece for where it went. When she pulled them out this time, she was able to do the 4, 6, and sometimes the 9 piece puzzles by herself! And she likes wearing LOTS of pony tail holders, at least for a little bit.

I think I was 'wearing' him so that I could get some work done around the house.
He's so cute in the saucer!
